BYXELKROK HISTORY THROUGH THE CENTURIES

During the Viking Age, northern Öland was part of important trading routes across the Baltic Sea. The area around Byxelkrok is believed to have served as a natural landing place where people came ashore to fish, trade, and continue their journeys.

Finds from the region indicate connections with the Baltic countries and other parts of Scandinavia. Burial grounds and stone cairns testify to long-term human habitation here.

According to local tradition, the Viking chieftain Toke settled in the area. His name lives on in Tokenäs, just south of present-day Byxelkrok.
