FERRY SERVICES TO BYXELKROK

In 1872, the first ferry made a temporary stop at Byxelkrok. As there was no proper harbour, the steamship Ivar Blå anchored offshore and passengers were brought ashore by a smaller boat.

Regular ferry services began in 1875, making Byxelkrok Harbour an important transport hub on the northern coast of Öland.

When the steamship s/s Oscarshamn began calling regularly at Byxelkrok, life in the area changed. For the first time, the village had a reliable connection across Kalmarsund – linking people, goods and ideas.

Since the arrival of s/s Oscarshamn, nearly 20 different passenger ferries have served Byxelkrok, culminating with today's m/s Solsund.
